From Stockholm, Valery Gergiev conducts the original version of Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov (concentrating only on the politics in Russia and Boris's decline), starring Vladimir Vaneev in the title role, with Vasily Gerello and Gennady Bezzubenkov also heard in the roles of Shchelkalov and Varlaam, heard over many stations this afternoon: Radio 4 Netherlands starts at 1700/1:00PM, and you can tune in at 1730/1:30PM to Latvia Radio, Musiq3, NRK Alltid Klassisk, NRK P2, Sveriges Radio, or Radio Tre.
The earliest great opera, Monteverdi's Orfeo can be heard over WOSU at 1700/1:00PM, with Ian Bostridge in the title role and Nathalie Dessay also in the cast.
