Saturday, 8/20/'05 (A)

Special offerings this afternoon:

At 1700/1:00PM:

Violeta Urmana and Mark Delavan are heard in Verdi's Forza del Destino, heard over DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR.

Mark Delavan can also be heard in the title role of Verdi's Rigoletto, with Tito Beltrán also in the cast, over RDP ANTENA 2.

RADIO 4 NETHERLANDS brings us an exciting, radiant new soprano, Karina Gauvin, starring in Handel's Alcina.

On HECTOR, Bernard Haitink conducts Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, with Wolfgang Holzmair and Anne Sofie von Otter in a "live" performance from 2000.

An even more exciting Pelléas et Mélisande can be heard over the NPR World of Opera series on well over a dozen different U.S. stations, starting either at 1700/1:00PM, or 1730/1:30PM; it features Simon Keenlyside, Mireille Delunsch, Jose Van Dam and Ferruccio Furlanetto!

At either 1700/1:00PM on WQXR or 2200/6:00PM on RDP ANTENA 2, you can catch Paul McCreesh conducting Gluck's Paride ed Elena; unclear whether Magdalena Kozena and Susan Gritton are featured in both performances or only in the one at 1700/1:00PM.

At 1730/1:30PM:

Inga Kalna can be heard in a supporting role in Conti's rarely heard Don Chisciotte in Sierra Morena under Rene Jacobs, over RADIO OESTERREICH INTERNATIONAL.

More exciting offerings from today to follow momentarily on this page. Stay "tuned".

Happy listening.
