OperaCast asks that we do what we can today for the afflicted on the Gulf Coast. You can view a brief list that we now have up, a list in progress, that cites a handful of those organizations that are doing what they can right now to assuage the indescribable suffering. They need all our help:

Special opera offerings today include

At 1700/1:00PM:

ESPACE MUSIQUES's b'cast of Maria Stuarda showcases Joyce Di Donato in the supporting role of Queen Elizabeth.

Check at this time if Vladimir Ognovenko can be heard in Musorgsky's Khovanshchina, or if KCSC is offering an alternate item instead.

In view of the keen interest, we are departing from our norm and spotlighting a brand new studio recording, Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, with Placido Domingo and Nina Stemme, heard over WQXR.

NPR WORLD OF OPERA presents Giordano's Andrea Chenier, starring Salvatore Licitra and Paoletta Marrocu.

MUSIQ3 presents Meyerbeer's Margherita d'Anjou, with a cast that includes Annick Massis and Daniela Barcellona.

At 1730/1:30PM:

Annick Massis can also be heard in Rossini's Adelaide, over LATVIA RADIO KLASIKA.

CESKY ROZHLAS 3-VLTAVAA presents Verdi's Jerusalem, with Nelly Miricioiu and Paul Austin Kelly in the cast.

Ivor Bolton conducts Cavalli's La Calisto, where you can hear a face-off between two countertenors, Dominique Visse and Lawrence Zazzo, over MDR FIGARO.

At Covent Garden, Antonio Pappano conducts Wagner's Die Walkuere, featuring Lisa Gasteen, Bryn Terfel, Waltraud Meier, Placido Domingo and Rosalind Plowright, over RADIO OESTERREICH INTERNATIONAL.

At 1900/3:00PM:

Rarely do we spotlight not one but two studio recordings: still, Arleen Auger and Richard Hickox together achieve something very special in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea, on LYRIC FM.

At 2300/7:00PM:

A rebroadcast of Billy Budd, starring Dwayne Croft and Samuel Ramey, over WDAV.

Finally, at 0200/10:00PM:

KING too offers a rebroadcast: Deborah Voigt in Beethoven's Fidelio.

These and many other operas are on offer now. So you are invited to browse for yourself through all of today's listings,

Happy listening.

Just had to mention that Julian Gavin, an excellent young tenor, is performing the lead tenor role in today's OperaCast from Cesky Rozhlas 3-Vltava at GMT 1730/EDT 130pm and not Paul Austin Kelly, who is performing a more minor role.

Happy listening, Charles
