URGENT!! Abject Apology to one and all!

We must extend regrets to one and all who were looking forward to today's Tristan und Isolde on the WFMT OPERA STAGE series:

"WFMT OPERA STAGE series is bringing us an altogether exceptional Tristan und Isolde with Ben Heppner and Waltraud Meier, whose Isolde here signals an astonishing new lease on life for this diva's voice, alongside arguably the finest Brangaene of our day, Yvonne Naef, all under the flexible leadership of Maestro Esa Pekka Salonen in a production at the Opera Bastille."

Almost to the last station, every one started their coverage today either a half hour or an hour before the listed time! We cannot make up for this extremely unfortunate lapse, but we can still direct the attention of those reading this at the last minute to KUAT's airing of this fine performance today, which appears to be still on schedule for GMT 1900/EDT 3:00PM, as originally listed.

You have fifteen minutes to air time!

Hoping some will be able to take advantage of this,

Operacast

Saturday, the 25th of June, 2005

Here's the lineup of the most notable live performance broadcasts:

KLARA - From Vienna, a rare chance to hear Verdi's Don Carlos in the original French, featuring one of the truly elegant tenors of our time, Ramon Vargas, in the title role, with Iano Tamar and Alastair Miles also in the cast, Bertrand de Billy conducting.

WFMT OPERA STAGE series is bringing us an altogether exceptional Tristan und Isolde with Ben Heppner and Waltraud Meier, whose Isolde here signals an astonishing new lease on life for this diva's voice, alongside arguably the finest Brangaene of our day, Yvonne Naef, all under the flexible leadership of Maestro Esa Pekka Salonen in a production at the Opera Bastille.

NPR WORLD OF OPERA - From Houston Grand Opera, we can catch a listen to the occasional vocal partner of Andrea Bocelli, sometimes viewed as a considerably finer artist than her famed colleague, soprano Ana Maria Martinez, starring in Puccini's La Boheme.

CBC TWO, WICR & WICR - Are carrying three different reruns throughout the day of WFMT OPERA STAGE's presentation of the world premiere of Lorin Maazel's 1984 from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, with a cast that includes the superb Simon Keenlyside.

RADIO TRE (RAI) - The exciting new bass-baritone Erwin Schrott stars in Mozart's Don Giovanni from the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, in a cast that also features Mariella Devia; Zubin Mehta conducts.

WCLV - A special chance to hear Maureen O'Flynn shine in various excerpts including the entire Act I finale of Puccini's Turandot opposite Salvatore Licitra at the 30TH ANNUAL RICHARD TUCKER FOUNDATION OPERA GALA.

Live...from the WORLD...It's Saturday LIVE!!!

An embarrassment of Mozart and Janacek today, along with the World Premiere performance of Lori Maazel's 1984. Here's the lineup of live performance broadcasts:

DR P2 - From San Francisco, a performance of Wagner's Der Fliegende Höllander, with Jean Eaglen, Mark Delavan, Thomas Studebaker, Stephen Milling, Jill Grove and Eric Cutler, Michael Tilson Thomas conducting.

ESPACE 2 - Is carrying a performance from our future (?) - a December 31, 2005 performance of Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail from the Volksoper in Vienna, with Shahrokh Moshkin Chalam, Sine Bundgaard, Ditte Andersen, Topi Lehtipuu, Martin Thörnqvist and Fernand Bernadi, Christophe Rousset conducting.

ESPACE MUSIQUES (French Radio Canada) - More Mozart from Palais Garnier in Paris, this time it's La Clemenza de Tito with Susan Graham, Hannah Ester Minutillo, Catherine Naglestad, Ekatarina Siurina, Roland Bracht, and Christoph Prégardien, Sylvain Cambreling conducting.

DEUTSCHLANDRADIO KULTUR, KLARA, LATVIA RADIO KLASIKA and RADIO SLOVENIA TRETJI - A recent performance of Handel's Rinaldo from Vlaamse Opera in Antwerp with Christine Rice, Olga Paischnyk, Nicola Marchesini, Philippe Jaroussky, Inge Kalna, and Robert Gierlach, Andreas Spering conducting.

MUSIQ3 - From Lausanne, a recent performance of Salieri's La Grotta di Trofonio, with Olivier Lallouette, Raffaella Milanesi, Marie Arnet, Nikolai Schukoff, Sébastien Droy, and Carlo Lepore, Christophe Rousset conducting.

RADIO 4 NETHERLANDS - There has been some confusion about their schedule for today. Their opera page says they are carrying the Salieri La Grotta di Trofonio, but all of their other schedule pages (and there are several to chose from) indicate that the station will be carrying a Concert of music by Arvo Pärt.

WFMT OPERA STAGE series is bringing us the World Premiers performance of Lorin Maazel's 1984 from Covent Garden. Although we have heard some very disparaging comments about the music for this new opera, the performance does star Simon Keenlyside (Geoffrey has been heard to say he would listen to him singing the telephone book...), as well as Nancy Gustafson, Richard Margison, Diana Damrau, Lawrence Brownlee (an up-and-coming young lyric tenor who was a winner of the Met Auditions finals several years back), and Graeme Danby. Maazel conducts.

NPR WORLD OF OPERA - From Houston Grand Opera, Janacek's The Makropoulos Case, with Catharine Malfitano, Robert Brubaker, Jonathan Summers, Joseph Evans, Ryland Davies, Richard Sutliff and Chad Shelton, Steven Sloane conducting.

CBC TWO - Another airing of the recent Covent Garden Un Ballo in Maschera with Karita Mattila, Marcela Alvarez and Thomas Hampson, and also some excerpts from the performance of 1984 from Covent Garden, and from several operattas.

KBYU - For those who may have missed it when this was broadcast some weeks back, the 30th Annual Richard Tucker Music Foundation OperaGala.

MDR FIGARO - From Dresden, a lieder recital - Schubert's Balladen von Friedrich Schiller with Robert Holl, David Lutz, piano.

SVERIGES P2 - A performance from Stockholm of Tchaikovsky's Eugen Onegin with Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, Maria Fontosh, Larisa Kostjuk and Jonas Degerfeldt, Alexander Lazarev conducting.

WRTI - The Opera Stage series on a two-week delay - Shostakovich's Lady McBeth of Mzensk from the Bolshoi Opera, featuring V. Gilmanov or A. Naumenko, M. Galiahmetov or M. Paster, Anisimova or Smirnova or Rubtsova, and R. Muravitsky, Zoltán Pesko conducting.

RADIO TRE (RAI) - A performance from Teatro Carlo Felice in Naples of Britten's Billy Budd, with Dwayne Croft, Robert Brubaker and Samuel Ramey, Jonathan Webb conducting. Later in the day, a triple bill from 1976 of Leoncavallo's Zaza, Zingari and Edipo Re.

WICR - Now starting the Opera Stage series with a magnificent performance from Geneva of Janacek's From the House of the Dead with Peter Mikulas, Stephanie Novacek, Stefan Margita, Alexander Vassiliev, Bernard van der Meersch and Gordon Gietz, Jiri Belohlavek conducting. If you missed this the first two times around, catch it this time.

This Saturday, June 11, on Operacast

As we look over this Saturday's offerings on Operacast, starting now is a relay of Brussels' Frau ohne Schatten, featuring Silvana Dussman, Jose Van Dam, Jon Villars; Klara and Musiq3 will carry this.

Also starting now, Jose Van Dam is also heard over France Musiques in Janacek's From the House of the Dead.

NPR World of Opera - Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor from Houston Grand Opera, with Laura Claycomb and Vinson Cole.

One of the true vocal phenomena of our time, Eva Podles, will star in Rossini's Tancredi over CBC2.

Listen to the stars of tomorrow over KBYU as you enjoy this year's Metropolitan Opera National Council Winners Concert; Susanna Phillips made a particularly strong impression that day.

A rarity, Salieri's Trofonios, is heard over RADIO SLOVENIA TRETJI and SVERIGES RADIO P2 in a cast that includes Olivier Lallouette.

These and many more are ready for you to enjoy today.

Best from Operacast and
