A Quick and Dirty....
Just a few notes today about future offerings for both today and this week:
The Proms are now well underway. BBC 3 keeps the concerts in their archives for a week after each concert airs. You can visit the Proms website to access the archives. Lots of stations will be braodcasting and rebroadcsating these concerts as well.
The Salzburg Festival starts this week with a broadcast of Marriage of Figaro.
The Bayreuth Festival starts on Tuesday and continues with the opening night broadcasts continuing through August 2nd. See OperaCast's Bayreuth Schedule Page for details of these and all rebroadcasts of the Bayreuth performances. So far Bartok Radio seems to be the only station that will be carrying all the opening nights live (actually they will be delaying the Rheingold broadcast by several hours). in our view the Tristan und Isolde is the one to hear. (And in a very weird coincidence, I have Turner Classic Movies on while I write this, with the end of The Blue Gardenia on and just as I started this paragraph, the strains of Tristan welled up in the movies score - if you know the movie, the music playing on the phonograph when the murder is committed is an important plot point...)
And on for Saturday:
- NPR World of Opera, main listing - Lucie de Lammermoor, Donizetti's French translation of his famous opera
- WFMT's Opera Stage series - The Licitra Forza del Destino from Carnegie Hall with Robert Bass and the Collegiate Chorale
- Radio Oesterreich International - From Opera Bastille in Paris, Verdi's Simon Boccanegra with Carlos Alvarez and Ferruccio Furlanetto
- Numerous stations will be carrying Handels's Orlando from the Beaune International BAroque Opera Festival
I'm sure I have omitted something important, but we are soon off to Caramoor to see Eva Podles in Tancredi - it promises to be a somewhat soggy occasion but we are still looking forward to it.
