Saturday, November 11 - on OperaCast

It's a very diverse lot this week, including two different versions of Semele, the familiar Handel version and one by Marais, three Bayreuth Ring rebroadcasts (see below), from NPR's World of Opera a one-woman double bill featuring Audra McDonald, and several other items of interest -- read on.

  • France Musique - From Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris, an October performance of Handel's oratorio, Theodora, with Geraldine McGreevy, Anne Sofie von Otter, Stephen Wallace, Paul Agnew and Matthew Rose, Emmanuelle Haïm conducting.

  • Latvia Radio Klasika and Musiq3 - From the Barbicon Center in London, a performance of Halévy's La Juive, with Dennis O'Neill, Marina Poplavskaya, Alastair Miles, Darío Schmunck, Nicole Cabell, Darren Jeffery and Matthew Rose, Daniel Oren conducting. {Radio Tretji Slovenia is also carrying La Juive latrer on the afternoon, but with no cast details, we can't be certain it is the same performance.)

  • Radio 4 Netherlands - A September performance of Massenet's Manon, with Sinéad Mulhern, Peter Auty, Michael Kraus and André Post, Brad Cohen conducting.

  • WQXR - From Houston Grand opera a performance of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro, with Oren Gradus, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Dorothy Byrne, Carlo Lepore, Zheng Cao, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Joseph Evans and Ana Maria Martinez, Patrick Summers conducting.

  • BBC Radio 3 - From this summer's Salzburg Festival, Mozart's Mitridate, Rei di Ponto, with Ingela Bohlin, Richard Croft, Bejun Mehta, Netta Or, Miah Persson, Colin Lee and Pascal Bertin, Marc Minkowski conducting.

  • NPR World of Opera (on numerous stations) - From Houston Grand Opera, a one-woman double bill: Send (who are you? I love you) by Michael John LaChiusa and The Human Voice by Francis Poulenc, with Audra McDonald singing both roles, Ted Sperling conducting.   • MDR Figaro - From Frankfurt, an October performance of Detlev Glanert's Caligula (an opera in four acts with libretto by Hans-Ulrich Treichel, based on an Albert Camus story), with Ashley Holland, Michaela Schuster, Martin Wölfel, Gregory Frank, Jurgita Adamonyte, Hans-Jürgen Lazar, Dietrich Volle and Barbara Zechmeister, Markus Stenz conducting.

  • NRK Alltid Klassisk and NRK P2 - From Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, a June performance of Beethoven's Fidelio, with Karita Mattila, Barbara Bonney, Ben Heppner, Pavol Breslik, Matti Salminen, François Lis and Juha Uusitalo, Myung-Whun Chung conducting.

  • Sveriges Radio P2 - From Opéra Comédie, Montpellier, a July performance of Marais's Semele, with Blandine Staskiewicz, Bénédicte Tauran, Hjördis Thébault, Emiliano Gonzales-Toro, Stephan MacLeod, Thomas Dolié and Marc Labonnette, Hervé Niquet conducting.
